Why Quality Control Starts with Drawing Revision

Even a precise measurement is meaningless if it is taken against the wrong drawing revision. Quality control for tooling and molding begins by confirming the current drawing, material, critical dimensions, cosmetic surfaces, assembly requirements, and acceptance method.

Based on risk, checkpoints can be placed at incoming material, machining, assembly, and mold-trial stages. Critical dimensions need agreed datums, measuring equipment, and record formats. For cosmetic or assembly questions, approved samples and reference photographs are often more useful than vague descriptions.

When a nonconformance occurs, affected product should be isolated and the lot, cause, containment, and corrective result recorded. Quality assurance is not a report created before shipment; it is the use of the same approved information throughout the project.
